Milo Miller (b.2004, Dover, NH, based in Chicago, IL) is a punk comics artist, author, and world-builder. He works in dark fantasy and contemporary mythmaking. In a space of literalized metaphor he creates relevant fictions on contemporary politics and philosophy. Themes of colonialism, fascism, capitalism and resistance are explored. Through the language of myth, literature, and folklore, Milo reifies ideas and discourse. By leveraging a cultural canon of iconic narrative and symbolic devices, current issues leave charged reality, and are broken down in a world of fiction.
Via the medium of comics, Milo situates narratives on the nature of power and struggles against oppression in justly grand terms - Myth. In his work sequential images are juxtaposed with text like some of the oldest art of mankind. From cave paintings and reliefs on sarcophagi, to altarpieces and comic books, the narrative image is humanity’s most powerful tool for mythmaking. Working in a pen-and-ink style evocative of the woodcuts and etchings of medieval printmakers, his stories call upon historical depictions of myth and folklore. He mythologizes contemporary struggles against hierarchy, as the oral traditions of the past told of tyrannical kings and brutal winters. Following in the radical history of print pamphlets, his stories are to be shared widely. They are made to be accessible.
Milo is a regular comics contributor for F Newsmagazine, and has work at Quimby’s bookstore. He is currently working on his ongoing series The Tale of Sir Gaunter set in his Old Alonim Mythos. He is a student of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, expected to graduate with a BFA in 2026.
